Growing award-winning English wine in the Vale of York.
Growing grapes in the North of England takes patience, precision, and a lot of nerve. But we believe that the best wine is made in the vineyard.
Located in Nun Monkton, between York and Harrogate, our 18-acre vineyard thrives on rich clay soil and a cool climate that allows our grapes to ripen slowly. This extended growing season is our secret weapon, locking in the fresh acidity and intense fruit profiles that make Yorkshire Heart wines so distinctive.
The Grapes
We don’t try to copy France or Italy. We grow varieties that love the Yorkshire climate. With over 20 different grapes in the ground, here are the stars of the show:
- Solaris (White): Our “workhorse” grape. Bred for Northern Europe, it ripens early and delivers incredible tropical fruit flavours (think peach and apricot). It’s the backbone of our white wine range.
- Rondo (Red): Proof that you can make red wine in the North. This grape produces a deep, ruby-red wine with notes of black cherry and plum. It’s robust, reliable, and delicious.
- Pinot Noir (Red/Sparkling): The classic Burgundy clone. We use this for our premium reds and sparkling wines, adding elegance and strawberry notes to the blend.
- Seyval Blanc (Sparkling): Crisp, citrusy, and perfect for fizz. This grape provides the zesty acidity that makes our Sparkling White so refreshing.
- Ortega (White): A German variety that brings floral, blossom-like aromas to our blends. It adds a touch of sweetness and complexity.
